| I notice that I can crash the Communicator Browser window by trying to
print the list of Beanie Babies at www.ty.com. I did this from home,
on my own time, using my personal computer and an ISP connection that I
pay for. Let me know if I'm sounding defensive :).
Also, I was very encouraged with the Wizrd that helped me create my
mail preference entries. I was hoping this would allow me to have mail
profies, each separately configured and saved, that would allow my wife
and me to share the same computer, but use our separate email services.
Can this be done?
Thanks!

| FYI, I'm also having crashes when printing with the new Communicator Browser.
It's especially prone to happening if the Browser window is changing whilst
a print job is in progress.

| 4343.6 | Can't Fire Up Navigator 4.0 beta | POWDML::DFARRELL | Dennis Farrell -- MSO2-3/G2 | Wed Apr 09 1997 10:03 | 15 |
| I just downloaded Netscape Communicator PR3 (WIN 95) from the IBG home
page. Everything loaded and set up OK but when I try to run the
Navigator 4.0 part of the program, it just hangs and does not respond.
I retained my full release version of Navigator Gold V3.01 and I told
the Communicator setup program to "share files with previous versions
of Navigator" (since it was STRONGLY RECOMMENDED).
How can I get the 4.0 beta version of Navigator to run ?? Should I try
re-setting my proxies in Gold V3.01 ? I have my homepage set up as the
Digital Internal homepage.
Any helpful pointers out there ??

I did not re-boot immediately after the install. I went back and
closed all my open applications before re-starting Windows (not
re-booting the system because Communicator said to re-start Windows OR
re-boot).
I'll try re-booting and let you know what happens ...

Well, I just re-booted and Communicator still hangs. Does it make any
difference that I downloaded Netscape Communicator PROFESSIONAL EDITION
and not just the vanilla flavored Communicator version ???
Can't get it to run. The browser paints about 1/4 of my home page then
hangs up.
Help ....

did you close all apps prior to running the install (avoiding any DLL
conflicts)?
Why not just try re-installing?

It's me again, reporting back. I re-loaded Communicator and closed all
apps while re-loading. I re-booted and tried to run Communicator (or
at least V4.0 of the browser).
It still hangs .... it seems to want to paint the page but stops when
the browser displays "Starting Java" on the bottom of the screen.
What now ??

Thought I do not run the communicator on an X86
I have tried it on an Nt4.0 Alpha w/ FX!32... there
seem to be issues with Java, as when I load pages
that are Java it causes the Communicator to crash.
I would suspect after -.1 that is a problem with
the Communicator and Java....

| hmmm...
I loaded the software directly from netscape (chose the full install
plus plug-ins - but not the "pro" version) .... runs like a charm.
Anyone know what the "pro" version does?
Cheers!

Navigator 2.0 would do this if Java and JavaScript were not enabled.
Is it possible you have them disabled? (Options -> Network Preferences
-> Languages). It's possible they know about this, but best to report
it anyways (so we don't have to live with it in case they don't know)

The Professional version adds Netscape Calendar, Netscape AutoAdmin,
and Netscape IBM Host On-Demand

Donna,
I'd love to be able to get in and adjust network preferences but I can't
do a bloody thing once the home page "attempts" to paint itself and
then hangs. My mouse will not even close the application as I have
to CNTL+ALT+DEL to end the "non responding" application. Both of these
features (Java and Javascript) are enabled in my current version of
Navigator Gold V3.01.
DF
P.S. After reading the differences between the vanilla and the "pro"
version, maybe I'll try loading the "bland" version !!

Well ... I give up on Netscape Communicator/Navigator 4.0. I
downloaded the PR3 version directly from Netscape, followed all the
instructions that came with the install package (close all
applications, re-boot system, etc.) and I still can't start Navigator
4.0. It still hangs when the message reads "Starting Java" at the
bottom of the screen.
I dunno .... maybe it doesn't like the fact that I'm using 2 different
versions of Navigator on my PC at the same time. I guess I'll just
de-install what I just loaded and stick with Navigator Gold V3.01 !!
Bummed,

| bummer.... not to rub it in, but as a (welcome?) data-point I have
three browsers running simutlaneously: IE V4.0, Navigator gold 3.01,
comunicator preview release 3 on W95, celebris 5100. Also have loaded
the JDK1.02 and Corel office for java. Thought the whole shoot'in match
might go down in flames, but hasn't yet :)
The only issue I have with communicator is that I can't locate the
setting to define how many sessions can be started at once. If the
program is already running and I click on the shortcut it blanks the
page and reloads home (argh). Anyone out there seen the same?
Cheers!
