| 4464.1 | Accessing remote drives with Fastrack 2.0a??? | PCBUOA::BAYJ | Jim, Portables | Mon Feb 10 1997 13:16 | 21 |
| Under System Settings|Network Settings, if you click on help, it says:
By using a specific user account (other than LocalSystem),
you can restrict or enable system features for the server. For
example, you can use a user account that can mount files
from another machine.
There are some qualifiers, like the account has to have admin and
"log-in as a service" rights.
I did all that, but I still can't figure out a syntax that makes the
server happy when trying to access a remote disk drive.
I tried using Netscape Gold and browsed to the remote drive I wanted.
The page then works properly using the browser on the server, but when
I test it from a client, I get the "Not Found" error.
Anyone had any luck doing this? Any pointers?

It may help if you spelt FastTrack correctly in the topic
title (ie. it's two-T's, not one).
Also FWIW, here's a Xref to the other FastTrack topics (prior

I've fixed the title.

| Thanks for fixing the title. I realized I misspelled it later, but
forgot to fix it. Also, adding an index is a good idea. Helps tie
things together nicely.
I didn't want to go so far as to use the PC notesfile convention of
adding "official" to the title, but that was the general idea - to lump
together questions about one topic into one note. I knew there were
other notes about FastTrack; I just figured since I had one that wasn't
addressed in any previous note, I'd photograph two birds with one
exposure and see if I could get a grass roots movement going to start
consolidating subjects.
It couldn't hurt! :-)
Now, anyone have an idea about how to access shared drives?

| It works! ...sort've.
Netscape had a helpful document at:
http://help.netscape.com/kb/server/960828-9.html
It says that though this functionality don't support accessing remote
drives directly, that it usually works, and they document the set-up
procedure.
I got it to work accessing a shared folder on my Windows 95 system,
which was quite neat.
However, when I tried to access shared directories on an NT file
server, I got the Forbidden message. This is quite strange because I
have equal access to both directories, but one works and one doesn't.
I'd still love to hear from anyone that may have done this before, and
maybe knows how to work around these strange problems.
