I've been there this morning. I found this last year or the year before
and it asks you three questions for verification. One being your name,
your social sec. #, and the amount expected on your refund. It then
shows the expected mailing date which they were doing on fridays. I
just wanted to check my status since someone here already says they
have received both state and fed. refunds and I mailed mine in at
around the same timeframe (1/28/97) and received state refund on 2/4/97
which was the FASTEST I've ever gotten a refund back! I was hoping Fed.
would be here this week, probably next week if not today/tomorrow. I
want to find that page and write it down in my notebook to put it on
navigator at home and have a hard copy of the address.

| I just checked the IRS page and I found at
http://www.irs.ustreas.gov/plain/elec_svs/auto-ref.html
that you can check status of refunds by phone: 1-800-829-4477, but they
recommend that you have your return with you since they'll ask you
for SS#, filing status and exact refund amount.
BTW, it says to allow for 6 weeks if mailed, 3 if submitted
electronically.
