4549.0. "Browsing Permissions in Frontpage" by NAC::TRAN () Mon Mar 17 1997 10:18
What is the best method for this?
I would like to set up a password protected web site. I will be
linking this web site from a "public" page. I'm using MS IIS 3.0 as
the web server on NT 4.0.
I've set the permissions on Frontpage to use "unique permissions for
this web." I've also added the "authors" and their Digital1 usernames
for authoring permissions and added a global group for "browsing
permissions."
When I try to access this password protected link, it asks for username
and password. I've tried various combinations of usernames [i.e.
DIGITAL1\username, digital1\username, username] but it keeps saying
access denied. Is there something that I'm not doing correctly?
Also, instead of using NT accounts, can I create a "generic" username
and password for browse access? I would like people to have access
although they may NOT be logged into their Digital1 accounts.
Are there other methods much easier or efficient then Frontpage
permissions?
Thanks for any help in advance!

| 4549.1 | "NT" security for Web access | PYRO::RON | Ron S. van Zuylen | Mon Mar 17 1997 12:13 | 6 |
| If you plan on using Windows NT username/passwords, you'll need to use
a browser that support that style of authentication... which is probably
only Internet Explorer (currently 3.01 + security patch). Are you using
this beast?
