Is there a UID limitation for Digital Unix 4.X. A customer of mine has been experimenting with large UID's and has stated Digital Unix is unable to handle them. Any comments? [Posted by WWW Notes gateway]

You net to ask this is the Unix (OSF) Notes conference. I believe that the answer is yes, it can handle large UID's, but you need to check there. Danny
| 4585.2 | It's 64K today, 2 gig in 4.0d | GYRO::faux.zko.dec.com::skinner | Internet Business Group | Fri Apr 04 1997 13:16 | 12 |
On Digital Unix 4.0b it's 64k. It's supposed to change in 4.0d (maybe November) to 2 gig uid's. I believe Darrell Dunnuck is the engineer in charge. You may want to contact him if your customer is willing to field test. What is your customer doing? If they are using the UID's for pop3 mail, we found that as long as the user didn't have a shell account, you can use the same UID over and over. Hope this helps, Shari
