| Sorry, should have updated this note. The beta is over and we have shipped
the kits to manufacturing. They'll be on the shelves May 19. Tunnel 97
expiring kits (September 1, 1997) are available from our web site at
http://altavista.software.digital.com
by pushing the "Tunnel Center" button followed by the "Download" button.
Currently, that takes you to

Feedback, as always, is welcome and encouraged.

If I take my glasses off and move my face to within 3 inches of the screen
and squint, I can still make out the letters, so your web page designers
haven't yet managed to make attractive but useless pages _yet_.

| OK, I guess I asked for that. Feedback on THE ALTAVISTA TUNNEL PRODUCT
is welcome and encouraged. Feedback on the web site can be sent to whoever
cares about that, hopefully someone near the other end of where the
"feedback" button takes you.

| Thanks for the slam, Danny, but we do care. But it would be useful to at
least post the error message so we'd know which direction to turn. It
works fine for me.

| Actually there are fonts which would be more readable at that text
size. Studies have shown that using lowercase characters enhances
readability. But I didn't find it irritatingly hard to read. And I love
those Phillips head screws off to the left of the headings!

I tried it just now with internet explorer 2.0
I tried it before with netscape 3.x
I am connecting using userid mikedran0 via the ccs proxy server

If you trade monitors with me, I bet I'll stop complaining.

| 4609.11 | Since beta is expired, how can we get 97. | SMURF::GAF | Jerry Feldman, Unix Dev. Environment, DTN:381-2970 | Mon Jun 02 1997 18:50 | 3 |

Can cost centers now order it?

| Tunnel 97 should be on the shelves. We're using a third party for
manufacturing (Logistix) rather than the SSB, but you'd want to order
it from IEG, who should have it. If you find differently, let me
know and I'll push from this end.

| My supervisor just checked, here is his reponse(6/4/97):
Tunnel97 cannot be ordered yet. It'll be in the SSB in about a week.
I spoke to the product manager and couldn't get a part number.
The software we need to order is Tunnel V2.0 (equivalent to Tunnel 97).
Looks like I'll need to revert back to 1.0 for this wekend.

| Dave,
Please post what you actually receive.
I was told that SSB had started shipping Tunnel97 as of
May 28 (when it ran out of Tunnel 1.1 kits). I was also
told that the order numbers would not change (but didn't
think about a possible name in the version) - while attempting
to see if we need to update the CCS Tunnel service order page.
This was by someone in the AltaVista group

| I called SSB and the person I spoke with indicated the new kits
would be shipping 'soon'. To be on the safe side, I asked them to
discard my order (they'd just printed it from the mail account).
I'll re-submit the order later (I'm not in any hurry).

| Jeff, since you follow this note...
The beta kit will not install properly on OSR2. Although OSR2 already
contains the ISDN V1.1 kit, the tunnel installation claims that
"ISDN patch 1.1 is required for this product". Since I cannot find
an ISDN patch on the Microsoft site (only the kit), I must assume
that the beta installation is simply not detecting that the ISDN kit
is in fact installed.
This problem has been brought up in the AltaVista Tunnel support forum
(entry #285), but the AltaVista support people don't seem to know
what OSR2 is and that ISDN V1.1 is part of it.
Do I really have to (re)load the ISDN kit?
Thanks,
Larry

I took a look at the osr2 files, they appear to be August 24, 1996 and
older. But when I tried to expand the isdn kit, it would not expand and
I was not willing to install it on top of my osr2 w/o knowing the files
and their ages!
