4611.0. "getting the real hostname from IIS" by VAOU09::LAM () Tue Apr 15 1997 17:11
I am setting up a demo using NT4-SP2 with
SQLserver 6.5-SP2 and IIS 3.0. I am using
the as-shipped sample.htx for IDC to SQL
from IIS. Everything works fine. But I need
to get the real hostname of the server since
my client desktop is connecting to the IIS
as a virtual host. I have tried the following
with no success:
1) using <%SERVER_NAME%> in my htx file, but
it returns the virtual hostname, not the real
machine name
2) tried <!--#exec cgi="/scripts/gethost.cgi" -->
just like unix with NCSA server; but it seems IIS
does not allow ExecCGI in server side include
3) plain old CGI does not work since I am stuck
with htx
4) <script language="javascript">
document.write(location.host)
</script>
does not work either since javascript returns
the virtual hostname
Short of writing a complete dll I have run out
of ideas. Does anybody have any idea? Any help
appreciated.
