| I have one for NT. I'm not sure if it works on Widows 99 or 3.1. It's
a command-line utility.

| Hi Danny,
Command line would be preferable to me. If you culd mail it to me I'll give
it a try.

Tried it - not very impressed.
It would not install to \Program Files\iqt and when it runs if you try
and TRACEROUTE something outside our firewall, it goes into an infinite
loop, which you have to stop with Ctrl-Alt-Del.
Sigh.
Not really redy for prime-time.

| I've tried most of these tools, but they mostly just look up an address and
translate to IP address (or the inverse).
What I wanted was nslookup functionality; the ability to issue queries for
RR's such as SOA, MX, PTR, A, CNAME, NS etc.
Danny's would have done what I wanted, except it is NT specific. I get the
prompt then it hangs.....

| You can rebuild it from the sources if you want. I have the source.
Indeed I also had done a port of NSLOOKUP from UNIX to VMS about 3 years
ago. If you want this on a non-NT system it may need some rebuilding.

| If you don't need the command line, the utilities that come with
Trumpet Winsock include a "DIG" utility. (DIG is another family of DNS
utility clients). There are several others, though. You might shop
through the Winsock applications at http://www.tucows.com/ .

| FWIW, I also have made my own. Includes ping, traceroute, and
nslookup. Win32 GUI based, the ping & traceroute parts won't work on
Win95, but the DNS client should, although I use it almost
exclusively on NT.
If other avenues fail and you want to give it a try, send mail
(berger@vbo.dec.com).
