I am looking at purchasing the new Magnavox CDB650 and wondered
if any of you have any info on this machine. I have read several
reports on it and it seems to be what I've been looking for, what
I'd like to know is;
1. Where can I find one and at what price?
2. Has Magnavox done anything to improve their reliability.
( I realize that this machine is new to the market but hope
someone out there ran right out and bought one.)
Thanks for whatever info you can offer.
Chuck

Musical Concepts got one a week or two ago. They said it was one
of the 1000 that were in the country. After modification, they
said it was better than the modified 2041, so there may be something
to the new error correction and 16x4 x2DACs.
Construction is largely the same as the 2041. Perhaps they've worked
out some more bugs, but its still all plastic. MC said there was
a PC board plugged into a large (40 pin?) DIP, so the 650 may have
evolutionary changes during production. I'm guessing the price
is around $400. I'm satisfied with my hacked 2041 and am not
considering the 650, until perhaps CD prices go down (ha!).
My 650 service manual has been on order for months. Still don't
have it.
