I finally succumbed and bought The Story of The Clash Vol.1. There's
no Vol. 2 yet but Joe Strummer was rather prolific and I'm sure
when he needs the cash he'll release it 8^) ...
Anyway, the Clash is one of my favorite bands and the collection
is pretty good. The tunes:
Disc 1
------
The Magnificent Seven
Rock The Casbah
This Is Radio Clash
Should I Stay Or Should I Go
Straight To Hell
Armagideon Time
Clampdown
Train In Vain
The Guns Of Brixton
I Fought The Law
Somebody Got Murdered
Lost In The Supermarket
Bankrobber
Time 49:48
Disc 2
------
White Man In Hammersmith Palais
London's Burning
Janie Jones
Tommy Gun
Complete Control
Capital Radio One
White Riot
Career Opportunities
Clash City Rockers
Safe European Home
Stay Free
London Calling
Spanish Bombs
English Civil War
Police And Thieves
Time 50:30
Unfortunately a good lot of these cuts are from London Calling.
I would have been a bit happier if they had "Charlie Can't Surf"
and "I'm So Bored With The USA" instead but I guess Joe is saving
them for Vol. 2 ....
It's actually a good mix of Clash tunes for those who aren't really
into the rude boy scene and it does span their reggae influences,
rap and all out ballsy rock'n'roll.
Soundwise it's not bad - but let's face it, the Clash played loud
and hard, enough to sterilize frogs at 50' so you get them that
way with all the goodness of digital! I must admit it's been fun
causing the foundations of my apartment building to crack!

Is "This is Radio Clash" on one of their other albums?
I like some Clash tunes, but never bought any of their albums.
Radio Clash is one of my favorites, but I thought it had come out as a
single and not on an album. If that's true, it's an extra reason for
me to start off with this CD collection.

No, it was only released on a 12" single.
P.S. I bought this CD last week at Lechmere. Normal price was $19.99.
Then they took 20% off because of the CBS sale, so it was $15.99.
Then they took off $3.00 for my trading in a worthless album, so
the final cost for the double CD was $12.99!!!
