SGI has an option for direct I/O (not through the buffer cache) which we
have observed to provide a SIGNIFICANT performance benefit. To use direct
I/O on SGI systems, the file is opened with the O_DIRECT flag. Transfers
must be between 4Kb and 4Mb and must start on a 512 byte memory boundary.
Is there anything similar under DEC UNIX?
Do any of the open flags O_SYNC or O_DSYNC perform direct I/O.
Thanks, Ron Young
