Brief Description of Problem:
-----------------------------
I would like to get Digital's response to the lack of DEC Alpha
support in the latest (April 1997) release of the MSDN Library
CD-ROM.
As you may know by now, the MSDN Library only supports Intel systems
now. Our company has been developing for Windows NT for the DEC Alpha
for nearly three years and we have subscribed to MSDN as long. With
no prior notice, Microsoft decided to drop support for the DEC Alpha
in the library!

Patrick,
Micosoft did not drop Alpha support. What happened is this. Up
until the April CD, the MSDN was distributed and the main program which
did all the work was the Infoviewer. This worked on Alpha under FX!32.
With the start of the April release, they have added new functionality and
tied IE 4.0 into the process and that is what broke the MSDN. They
basically did not test it on Alpha. They have been notified of the problem
and they are working on a resolution. I do not know what timeframe, but
in the meantime all the information is available through Micosoft's web
site. Hope this helps for now.
regards,
john

Thanks for the reply.
When I called Microsoft about this problem, the support person I talked
=
to stated that he had heard from several people complaining about this
=
and he had me read the system requirements on the CD which did not have
=
any mention of DEC Alpha or other RISC system. Up until the April =
release, the system requirements DID mention Alpha and other RISC =
platforms. I took that to mean they fully intended to leave out Alpha
=
and other RISC platforms and only target Intel.
At least they are aware of the problem and Alpha support is still in =
their plans. Right?
Thanks again.
